This is the opening set of the Kangaroo Time line. One mob of eastern grey kangaroos, the same animals across four booklets, watched through summer, autumn, winter and spring. Each booklet takes the same mob and looks at it from a different angle, so a child sees how one group of animals changes as the year changes around it.
The booklets are field guides, not storybooks. They are short, fact-led, and built to be carried outside. Each one positions the reader as a researcher with a notebook: look closely, write down what you see, then go and find it in the real world. The science is real and named. Heat regulation comes from Dawson, mob structure from Jarman, joey development from Tyndale-Biscoe, play behaviour from Burghardt. Every fact in every booklet traces to a published source printed in the back.
Each booklet is bilingual, English and Portuguese on facing pages, and each carries a code for the free companion. The slipcase holds all four.
What this is not. It is not a picture book and there are no talking animals. The kangaroos do not narrate. This is a set of small field guides that treat a young reader as someone capable of real observation.
The book
In the slipcase

Cooler air, fresh grass after rain, and the start of the next season's young.

Short grazing windows, cold mornings, and how the mob keeps its warmth.
-
Spring in development
Joeys leaving the pouch, peak forage, and the most play of the year.
Companion
The WildWooHoo Books companion
Every booklet carries a code inside the back cover. An adult enters it once to open that booklet's companion. The child-facing companion is free with the book, it is not a subscription, and it collects nothing about the child.
- Real recordings of the animals in the booklet.
- Links to open-access video and the science behind each fact.
- A where-to-see-it map built from open data.
- The booklet's printed sources, linked.
- Printable researcher notebook pages.
Each booklet in the set has its own code inside the back cover.
Parent and teacher pack optional
An optional pack for the grown-ups, sold separately, that spans the whole series. Bought and used by an adult. It never asks the child for an account and never tracks the reader.
- Curriculum-alignment notes for AU primary.
- Lesson plans and classroom extension activities.
- A parent guide with conversation prompts across the books.
- The full cross-series citation chain in one place.
The child-facing companion stays free and data-free. The paid pack is an adult resource and never appears inside the child's companion. Pricing to confirm.
